RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) -- New Mexico's largest electric utility wants to hear from customers as it develops an energy plan for the future.

Public Service Co. of New Mexico is starting a yearlong public process Wednesday with a meeting in Rio Rancho. Nine other kickoff meetings are planned around the state in July, and PNM says more meetings will follow over the next year.

PNM, whose parent company is PNM Resources Inc., wants to know if it should change the amount of energy it gets from renewable, nuclear and coal- and natural gas-fired power plants.

It also wants to know how much customers are willing to pay for a different combination of power sources and what role efficiency programs should play in the state's energy future.

PNM president Pat Vincent-Collawn says this is the best opportunity for customers to have their say.
