Fourth quarter 2009 was down 27.2 percent from fourth quarter 2008. Year end is down 15.9 percent.











On an area basis all areas were down as compared to fourth quarter 2008:
Northeast Down 4.4%
South Central Down 13.0%
Great Lakes Down 14.8%
Southeast Down 21.3%
Western States Down 40.5%
Ohio Valley Down 47.7%
Missouri River Basin Down 52.6%
On an area basis one area was up and six were down compared to 2008 year end.
South Central Up 17.3%
Northeast Down 7.8%
Great Lakes Down 12.9%
Ohio Valley Down 17.6%
Southeast Down 20.1%
Western States Down 20.6%
Missouri River Basin Down 24.7%


Though in many instances, outages do require employment of Boilermakers beyond the Local Union's membership numbers, this still gives a view of where a Boilermaker was able to make a living at the trade without traveling out of Local and where traveling, or seeking other sources of income, was a necessity. Based upon the hours worked in the Local Union, the percentage reflects how much of a full period of employment each member would have achieved.
